Thanks for feedback. I think I will just give up. I was not disputing the information given, just concerned that it was difficult to understand. But now I will do other things... Cheers Sdc870 (talk)

How long is a year

I am content to lose the footnote I added that gives the various definitions how long is a year, if you think that would be wise. I recognise your superior knowledge of this field. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 23:47, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

Considering the edit as a whole, I don't understand the purpose of the edit. Jc3s5h (talk) 23:54, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
The existing text gives a figure for the length of a mean Gregorian year. It fails to show how that approximation rates against reality. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 07:15, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
The section "Astronomical years" gives precise values of a selection of years that might be considered "reality". I think if we want to mention which one the Gregorian calendar year should be compared against, we would have to say which one we are comparing against, and cite a source that says this is the right one. I think the right choice for both the Julian and Gregorian calendars would be the tropical year. Here is a source:
"Glossary". United States Naval Observatory. s.v year, calendar. Retrieved 2026-05-02. The Gregorian calendar, now universally used for civil purposes, is based on the tropical year. Jc3s5h (talk) 14:52, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
My The existing text gives a figure for the length of a mean Gregorian year. It fails to show how that approximation rates against reality was to explain the purpose of the edit, not a renewed bid to rectify that issue. When the explanatory footnote ends up five times longer than the sentence it sets out to explain (and is still not good enough), I decided that it is time to stop digging and fill the hole back in. The information is already in the article. Maybe you're right, and we don't need to connect the dots for the reader. Jc3s5h (talk) 14:49, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Epact

When you have a moment, would you check my edits to Epact. Am I correct to have identified some extraordinary howlers? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 17:11, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
