Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Authoritarian playbook

You will probably wish to comment at Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard#Authoritarian playbook. I'd advise you to carefully read Wikipedia:No original research, and particularly the section on synthesis, before doing so. AndyTheGrump (talk) 13:51, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Given that you have ignored the advice above, restored the disputed content while accusing contributors making entirely legitimate edits of 'vandalism', and made no effort whatsoever to engage in discussion, as required by Wikipedia policy, I am going to give you one last chance to either revert your edits restoring the disputed material, or make some attempt to justify the content at the noticeboard thread above. Should you do neither, expect to have your refusal to comply with policy raise at WP:ANI. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:48, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
I will come back to this! Most of the changes you have made to the page are damaging and unwarranted. Thalorin (talk) 17:32, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
I made no changes to the page myself. As for 'unwarranted', I would once again remind you to read Wikipedia:No original research before making such claims: Wikipedia articles are required to adhere to policy. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:36, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Please do not add 6700 words to a discussion. If you cannot keep your discussion on-point no one will read it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:54, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
They took it down. Calling it SYNTH! I don't think they read it or checked the sources. How could they have, they took it down so quickly. Thalorin (talk) 12:56, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as at Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard, please be sure to sign your posts (but never when editing articles). There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. NebY (talk) 13:10, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

Information icon Please do not attack other editors, as you did at Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. NebY (talk) 14:46, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

He cannot hold that point of view, there's an ocean of evidence against it! Thalorin (talk) 14:52, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

icon Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. NebY (talk) 17:19, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

I will. Thalorin (talk) 17:29, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Please consider engaging in a more civil way. The complaints regarding your draft at Authoritarian playbook have merit within the context of the Wikipedia project. I do see you are a very new editor and I think you have a fair bit to learn about how to write for an encyclopedia. I would suggest you will get farther in developing those skills if you stop acting with immediate hostility toward constructive feedback. WP:NPA and WP:CIV are necessary collaborative tools. Could work. Thalorin (talk) 14:51, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
Just in case you missed the edit summary, do not move or edit a comment after it's been replied to. See WP:TPO and WP:REFACTOR for details. EducatedRedneck (talk) 16:27, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
You are harassing me! That is not how WP:TPO works! That is not how WP:REFACTOR works! That is not how WP:SYNTH works! You are to harass me and probably to harass those editors on Holocaust memory in Holocaust memory in pro-Palestinian activism as well. Why don't you stick to the Deep state page, be a ghost there! Thalorin (talk) 16:55, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
icon Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Authoritarian playbook. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. In case it was unclear, telling someone you don't have to go nazi on me is a textbook violation of WP:NPA. I suggest you strike that portion immediately. EducatedRedneck (talk) 11:37, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

Logical punctuation mark placement

Hi Thalorin, thanks for your edits to Ferdinand Marcos. Just a quick reminder: we use logical punctuation mark placement, so please don't change that incorrectly. Gawaon (talk) 09:27, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

You mean regarding the citations? Yes, I'm trying hard to avoid them. Thalorin (talk) 09:31, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
I mean MOS:LQ, in case that wasn't clear. I just noticed that you moved some quotation marks after commas or periods when they should have remained before. There were also some similar older issues on the page. I think I've fixed them now. Gawaon (talk) 09:35, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
Yes, that is my AI grammar checker's doing. Like myself, the grammar checker usually prefers commas or periods inside the quotation marks. Sometimes it prefers them outside the quotation marks. I then check if that improves or worsens the fluency of the paragraph. If I think it's noticeably better, I go with the AI suggestion; otherwise, I leave it alone. I can also stop myself from ever moving them outside the quotation marks. I'm a bit squeamish about moving them inside the quotation marks when the AI doesn't want me to, but I could do that as well. Thalorin (talk) 09:58, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
Please don't; we have our own rules, and they are more important than whatever your AI says. You know our rules, or if you don't, please get familiar with them. Gawaon (talk) 13:40, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
