- @Kallerna and Charlesjsharp: While I think it is fair to oppose on those grounds, I think we must also keep in mind that it is convention on WP:BLP articles to use the latest available good quality image. - Charles, it's only convention (or perhaps MOS?), not a hard and fast rule, I guess. For example, the infobox image of Betty White's article was a more recent image (from 2010) prior to her death in 2021 but was changed to a more flattering image from her "peak" (late 1980s, though for a life-long entertainer like her it is hard to locate a peak). In Talk:Betty_White/Archive_2#Should we change Betty White's Profile picture ?, you can see that this convention was why the image was changed. UnpetitproleX (talk) 21:30, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

Botanical Garden of Uppsala University

- I have improved the article significantly and the photo now illustrates a good view of the modern gardens. It was taken by me and released under CC-BY-SA. It does not constitute original research as it simply shows the reader what the gardens look like in a compelling way. I personally think it's quite a good photo and has better lighting than lots of the other ones in the same category. It is geotagged, measures 5142x3428px and has a detailed caption and description on Commons. The shot is empty with no people obstructing it. This is my first FPC so lmk if I've done anything wrong :)

I've uploaded to File:Linneanum, Uppsala, 2025-07-07 by Jacob Shaw.jpg and I see two issues: WB is leaning purple (the pathway especially) and the sharpening unfortunately produced haloes. - As you mentioned that you are the photographer, perhaps you can retake? The composition, as I mentioned, is excellent. If you take advantage of some of the camera's more advanced features - using AV mode at f9, with ISO at 100 (200 max), and shooting on a day when sun is illuminating the garden - should help immensely, even with an older camera. - Hi B. Jankuloski. A big difference between the English Wikipedia and Commons is the emphasis on encyclopedic value. While simply being in scope is enough for Commons, the English Wikipedia requires images to "add significant encyclopedic value to an article and helps readers to understand an article". The "wow" factor is not given as much emphasis; we still want images to be of high quality, but we allow more pedestrian subject matter so long as it provides high encyclopedic value. Consequently, images like File:Chimney with helical strake at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital, Windsor, Ontario, 2025-06-23.jpg can be featured on the English Wikipedia, but would likely have trouble at Commons. Conversely, File:Interior of Willistead Manor (two chairs by window), Windsor, Ontario, 2025-06-07.jpg was featured on Commons, but would have trouble on the English Wikipedia so long as the article on Willistead Manor deals more with the external architectural elements than the interior. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:37, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose This is a poor example of graphic design from this period and it's unclear why the image has sufficient historic significance to overcome this - the British produced a vast amount of propaganda and marketing material on their empire, of which this is a poor quality example. - Support as nominator – I'll copy the same story from the Commons FPC nom, since it still feels special: This is an endangered species, with only about 5,000 left in the world. They are furthermore famously secretive and primarily nocturnal. As a result, we have very few photos of this species at all outside of zoos. In fact, a google image search of a mother and baby returned almost exclusively zoo images. This was a stroke of luck: We went on a hike and found most of the park closed due to flooding. We explored where we could, seeing almost nothing outside of wet plants. Just when we were hiking back out and writing off the day as an "authentic rainforest weather experience" we saw these tapirs foraging in the distance. Apparently sometimes on especially rainy days they're seen during daytime hours. After a short while of standing still and watching these two, they decided to cross the path right in front of us. For the rest of the trip, we'd mention this experience to guides/locals, and none had ever seen a baby in the wild before (and adults only a handful of times).
