Retarget to Frąca? Skemous (talk) 15:39, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

  • Speedy retarget; probably could have just been done without a discussion. If the base name with diacritics is ambiguous, then the without-diacritics redirect should hit that, not one of the two matches. Deacon Vorbis (carbon  videos) 16:05, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Unnecessary, unwarranted and unneeded creation of redirects by TimTims2022. I understand redirects are cheap, but until articles can be created for anyone of these, these should/must stay red links. Editors and patrollers may cite trainwreck here, but all these were uniformly targeted, so listing them here for discussion. Intrisit (talk) 15:34, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Delete, not mentioned in article, return to red is persuasive considering the related infobox. Not trainwreck; good bundle. Tessaract2 (hello) 22:33, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Non-notable artist who I presume failed to reach the threshold required to be listed on the page and thus is not mentioned in the article. If the subject can credibly be converted to an article that passes GNG I would not oppose. mftp dan oops 15:17, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete Not sure artist will meet GNG at this time. The album was added to the list 13 April (), so understandable someone making a redirect at the time. Since the artist and album are not in the target article and there's is no reasonable target, the redirect should be deleted.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 16:17, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was trainwreck. Bundling this many redirects together with inadequate explanation is an abuse of process. The nomination is incorrect for the most of the redirects. The first, penultimate, and ultimate redirects are fundamentally different to the rest and require different nominations. It's too messy for me to separate them out now and this discussion will only get messier. Qby, if you want to, nominate the first, second-to-last, and last individually; the rest can be done together, but only with an accurate deletion rationale. • Delete all. WP:TOOSOON for these. They can be recreated closer to the games. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:27, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete 2026–27 Copa del Rey. Delete 2026 OFC Men's Champions League group stage - just a one liner mentioned. No need for a subtopic redirect for that. For the 2026 Asian Games redirects, I do not know why nom said ..nothing was mentioned in the target page., as Tavix says there is mention. (I checked some, not all). Nom can go through all, and renominate those that really don't have mention. Jay 💬 06:30, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

Funny name but I can't find much results of it off-wiki besides a few snarky Reddit comments and a literal translation from Swedish; the top results on Google was the redirect itself and mirrors on other sites. Considering this redirect is 22 years old (!!!), it barely has any page views (356 in the last 11 years) to show for it; Delete 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 00:54, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

356 views over 11 years is about 2.7 views per month, which is more than many redirects, and is enough to make me wonder why there are so many views. They're definitely somewhat less frequent in recent years, but they're not gone. Not sure what else people would be trying to get to, so I'm inclined to weak keep. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 01:43, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Weak delete I can't find any particularly reliable sources worth linking to, but it seems there is at least a theory that the koine name for John the Baptist translates more accurately to English as John the Dipper. However, it seems that there is also an 18th century author known (seemingly pseudonymounsly) as "John the Dipper" who wrote "The Salopian Zealot". Only weak delete because I do not know if there is actually enough information to write an article on the author John the Dipper. Casablanca 🪨(T) 15:56, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per nomination and above. --PoliticalPoint (talk) 22:25, 25 April 2026 (UTC) WP:SOCKSTRIKE. CycloneYoris talk! 09:17, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Wikt:βαπτίζω, from which wikt:βαπτιστής and ultimately baptist is derived did originally mean "to dip". "John the Dipper" could be argued to be a literal translation of the Greek "Ἰωάννης ὁ Βαπτιστής". Warudo (talk) 22:32, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

  • Keep. As noted by Skarmory, the redirect does see some use suggesting it's plausibly helpful. I don't agree that there's less in recent years; it seems to me there was less in 2022/23 but in the years since then the use has been comparable to most preceding years, with the exception of 2018 which had higher than usual use. Given the age and the regular, albeit low, use it seems plausible that deletion may break incoming links from external sites (WP:RKEEP#4). Even if not, I don't see a reason why it would be harmful so it seems at the very least WP:CHEAP.
External search for "John+the+Dipper" (including quotes to search for the exact phrase) finds some usage online outside Wikipedia (and not just on Reddit or similar forums; eg. ). While Casablanca is right that these wouldn't be considered reliable sources, the existence of usage of a term in reliable sources isn't a requirement for redirects to be kept. The guidelines relating to redirects are less stringent than those applying to articles. This isn't a modern interpretation or neologism; it appears in historical sources too (eg. Baldwin (1806), p. 87). It has, albeit rarely, appeared in modern publications. (eg. Malina (1996), p. 11) While not a common term, it seems it's usually associated with Baptist discourse, as they frequently disapprove of aspersion and affusion. It was also, apparently independently, used in Good As New (2004), a modern translation of several New Testament texts edited by John Henson, with a foreward from Rowan Williams, who was Archbishop of Canterbury at the time.
While I did also find mentions of the satirical work The Salopian Zealot, my search results don't reveal any significant coverage in secondary sources, suggesting it's not a notable book. I found conflicting results regarding the identity of the author, with some identifying "John the Dipper" as a pseudonym of "John Sandys" while others identified "Benjamin Francis". The former isn't notable, but the latter may be notable as a Welsh hymnist. However, the satire itself and the pseudonym are digs at the Baptists, so it's not really an independent topic. Regardless, John the Baptist would seem to be the primary topic over a single-use pseudonym for a historical, non-notable satire, both by usage and by long term significance. – Scyrme (talk) 12:55, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

These are redirects from a species to its genus. The notability guideline for species says that [a]ll eukaryotic species that are accepted by taxonomists are presumed notable. I think all should be deleted to return them to red. At least one species in this genus (Culoptila aguilerai) is a fossil species, and these are not covered by WP:NSPECIES. I don't think any of the redirects in this nomination are fossil species, but even if they are WikiProject Palaeontology still recommends that they have separate articles in this case.
