This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Tennis. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Tennis|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Tennis. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Keep - clearly meets WP:NTENNIS as a notable tournament as part of the ATP Challenger Tour. Sources found discuss the tournament in general as well as the yearly edition. Also, quite a lot of coverage on the tournament in African news as found here: , , and . NTENNIS is irrelvant to this discussion. It mainly deals with sportspeople, not in any way with tournaments. And it doesn’t gauge notability at all anymore. Not a valid keep rationale. T v x1 05:47, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
Firstly, let me clarify what I meant when referring to WP:NTENNIS, which is still used in addition to WP:GNG to gauge notability, at least to my understanding. While WP:NTENNIS is meant more for tennis players, winning a Challenger title is one of the criteria that leads to presumed significant coverage to be found, meaning that there is some inherent notability about the tournaments at that level. That is what I meant when I mentioned that it is a notable tournament at that level. Secondly, I don't see any mention or comment about any of the sources I have provided so far, and I am sure that there are more sources found that cover the tournament in detail. Saying that the whole rationale is not valid just because I mentioned WP:NTENNIS is not a correct interpretation of my comment above. Adamtt9 (talk) 11:39, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

Keep Faulty reasoning by the nominator. She did reach WTA Tour level, so she does meet WP:NTENNIS. More importantly, she meets WP:GNG through . No there is nothing faulty with my reasoning. She played one WTA event in doubles. ONE. A domestic soviet event where she lost her only match in an unremarkable manner. This is a far below a notable achievement. We have stepped away from performance-based notability years ago, so NTENNIS doesn’t even ascert notability. As for the WP:GNG argument, of course there are going to be some background articles written on the parents of major sports stars, especially by specialist sources, but that doesn’t make these people notable in their own right. I already dealt with that by referring to WP:NOTINHERITED. To demonstrate notability per GNG you need to prove the existence of significant secondary and independent coverage in mainstream sources of Irina herself. T v x1 16:47, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

I'm not disagreeing with you that WP:GNG is more important. But you say she doesn't even meet WP:NTENNIS, and that's just not true. You only need to play one WTA Tour event to meet WP:NTENNIS, and she has. No need to make stuff up. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 18:11, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
