Moving Poland rail operators
- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- No objection. The result of the move request was: Move. The following operators have been moved to their newly decided names: Koleje Małopolskie → Lesser Poland Railways, Koleje Śląskie → Silesian Railways, Koleje Wielkopolskie → Greater Poland Railways, Podkarpacka Kolej Aglomeracyjna → Subcarpathian Agglomeration Railway, Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna → Łódź Agglomeration Railway, Szybka Kolej Miejska (Tricity) → Tricity Rapid Urban Railway, and Szybka Kolej Miejska (Warsaw) → Rapid Urban Railway (Warsaw). --Fortek67 (talk) 11:58, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
Since the move from Koleje Dolnośląskie to Lower Silesian Railways was a success, and there was no opposition, please comment your thoughts of moving the remaining Poland rail operators to their English name.
- Koleje Małopolskie →
Lesser Polish Railways ORLesser Poland Railways - Koleje Śląskie → Silesian Railways
- Koleje Wielkopolskie →
Greater Polish Railways ORGreater Poland Railways - Podkarpacka Kolej Aglomeracyjna → Subcarpathian Agglomeration Railway
- Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna → Łódź Agglomeration Railway
And (potentially):
- Szybka Kolej Miejska (Tricity) → Tricity Rapid Urban Railway
OR Tricity Rapid Municipal Railway OR Tricity Rapid City Railway - Szybka Kolej Miejska (Warsaw) → Rapid Urban Railway (Warsaw)
OR Warsaw Rapid Municipal Railway (Warsaw) OR Warsaw Rapid City Railway (Warsaw)
And... some rail operators have already previously been moved or created under their English name: Polish State Railways, Warsaw Metro, Masovian Railways, Warsaw Commuter Railway, Lower Silesian Agglomeration Railway, Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway–this would make naming consistent. Please comment your thoughts. You can also see this move for context. Thank you, Fortek67 (talk) 20:14, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- Move. I prefer "Lesser Poland Railways" and "Greater Poland Railways" as these are the voivodeship names. Kiwipete (talk) 05:52, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Found a few sources for SKM Warsaw/Warszawa; WP:COMMONNAME might apply in this case:

- Move I support the move. Also, as stated above, it should be Lesser/Greater Poland, since that's what Lesser Poland Greater Poland Voivodeships use. I'm pretty sure "Lesser/Greater Polish" is incorrect term in general. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 01:31, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
SKM moves
Note: I belive Szybka Kolej Miejska should be translated as "Rapid Municipal Railway" instead. When translating term "miejski" when refering to the city infrastructure or government, the adjective "municipal" is usually used. Also, when it comes to Warsaw, it should be "Rapid Municipal Railway (Warsaw)", considering the railway in Polish is just known as "Szybka Kolej Miejska", without "w Warszawie". Artemis Andromeda (talk) 01:34, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- How about X Rapid City Railway? E.g. Warsaw Rapid City Railway – both railways will be disambiguated with a city name at the start, as oppose to in brackets at the end. I feel like it sounds a lot better compared to municipal, as that word is very formal and more of a direct translation of the name. Or maybe I'm thinking about this too much, as there isn't anything wrong with your suggestion and it can be used.
- Forgot to mention this earlier but we will now be going with Lesser/Greater Poland Railways as oppose to Lesser/Greater Polish Railways. Fortek67 (talk) 13:28, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- You thinking about it too much. Also, as I said, the official name is "Szybka Kolej Miejska". Adding Warsaw to the name is OR. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 22:23, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not opposed to City. Also, after some googleing, it turns out, the official Warsaw city websites say "Rapid Urban Railway". I would take it with a pinch of salt as those pages are usually written by random employees and have mistakes when it comes to translation. But well, it's as official as we will get. link Artemis Andromeda (talk) 22:27, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well good to see an "official" English name, but like you said, it was probably just translated by some random employee who put zero thought into it. Seen in other sources, which were mentioned by @XtraJovial before, there appears to be no consistent exact name. But because of your find now, it seems like the only option would be Rapid Urban Railway. Also, I don't quite understand what you meant by "Adding Warsaw to the name is OR." – are you talking about the disambiguator? I was about to ask, if we should add it at the start of the title or at the end in brackets. Fortek67 (talk) 22:34, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
- The names should be "Rapid Urban Railway (Warsaw)", since Polish name is just "Szybka Kolej Miejske" (without "w Warszawie"), and "Tricity Rapid Urban Railway" since the official name is "Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trojmiescie". Artemis Andromeda (talk) 22:45, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Somehow this survived AfD in 2019, but was left without improvements. Please add reliable sources. Thanks in advance. Bearian (talk) 00:59, 31 May 2026 (UTC)

Railways in Poland
I've been thinking about this since I've joined Wikipedia in August 2025; do any editors actually currently contribute to Poland rail-related articles? I know I have, and I've seen a couple of other editors contribute to the topic, but never anything much, (I'm talking about now) so I'm curious if there are more that I haven't noticed. I know editors have before, but they are usually inactive now. And when I first joined Wikipedia, I noticed that the coverage of Poland rail-related articles is quite poor. Of course, it's great in some areas, and there are some good and descriptive articles out there. But obviously, I started heavily contributing to the topic (hopefully you have noticed). There's a lot to do, and I can't do this on my own. My focus this whole time has been covering rail transport (railways and stations) in the Lower Silesian Voviodeship. I think I've covered the western part of the voivodeship quite well. Anyways, I won't go on about my edits forever.
Now, this is a long stretch, but if enough users are interested, (I mean that users who currently/want to contribute and improve Poland rail-related articles) perhaps start a task force? I have no experience with these kind of things, so I don't know what the appropriate member size should be. I'm currently trying to figure out whether or not it's worth starting one. I did have a read of the guide though. It would be helpful if long-term members of this project could give me some advice on how previous task forces of this project have went. I think this task force would be great, we could come together to improve existing articles (which I believe is very much needed) and create new ones, it would probably look something like the German one.
Now obviously, I ain't forcing anyone to contribute to Poland rail-related articles. I just want to know who's actually interested in the topic, and if enough are, could we start a task force? Thank you. Fortek67 (talk) 23:24, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- Not everyone interested in this topic monitors this page. You may find more folks, in fact, at WikiProject Railways (or whatever it's called). My interest in this doesn't extend beyond armored trains of Poland. Thank you for your contributions - 10 years ago when I was actively monitoring all things Polish-related here I'd have noticed, these days - not so much, sorry. - Thanks for the help, and yeah, I did send a message on WP Trains linking to this discussion. Hopefully someone will see it. Fortek67 (talk) 09:14, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- In addition, I think the scope of focus in WP:TRAINS needs to be expanded because after scurrying a few links, I found the content to be broadly US-based. Sddarealone (talk) 10:59, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
