  • ... that Pierre-Amable de Soubrany's corpse was guillotined after he survived a suicide attempt with five other convicted French revolutionaries (pictured) but died on the way to his execution?
  • Source: "The failure of the insurrection involved the fall of those deputies who had supported the demands of the populace. Before the close of the sitting, Goujon, with Romme, Duroi, Duquesnoy, Bourbotte, Soubrany and others were put under arrest... They were brought back to Paris for trial ... and, though no proof of their complicity in organizing the insurrection could be found... they were condemned. In accordance with a pre-arranged plan, they attempted suicide on the staircase leading from the court-room with a knife which Goujon had successfully concealed. Romme, Goujon and Duquesnoy succeeded, but the other three merely inflicted wounds which did not prevent their being taken immediately to the guillotine."[1] And explaining that he survived at first but died on the way to be executed, so only his body was beheaded: "Soubrany râlait... Le bourreau attendait dans la cour... On fit monter, on porta les condamnés, tout sanglants, dans la charrette... Soubrany, le noble et fier Soubrany, disait simplement : Laissez-moi mourir ! éjà il ne respirait plus. Sa main avait frappé juste. Sanson guillotina encore une fois un cadavre."[2]

  • Revised the hook to make more sense. To be clear, he and two other deputies survived the suicide attempt, and, of the survivors, only he died on the way to the guillotine. Please let me know if that isn't clear, and if you want to reword this. Thank you! Chao Garden (talk) 19:35, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
    General: Article is new enough and long enough
    Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
    Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
    Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
    QPQ: Done.

    Overall: All looks good. Created on 18 May and submitted on 22 May. Long enough. No copyright issues detected (Earwig's Copyvio Detector gives 8.3%). Image used is relevant, free, and appears good in small size. The hook is interesting, mentioned in the main body and it is cited. I think it is good to go. Optional: you may want to wikilink "guillotined". A.Cython(talk) 21:46, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

    @Chao Garden, A.Cython, and Dclemens1971: Pulled for WT:DYK#Bastille Day spinoff discussion.--Launchballer 04:14, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
    • Note to promoter: the French website site L'Histoire par l'Image indicates that experts disagree about which figure represents Soubrany in the image, but in any case he's not the one standing at left who is the only one clearly visible at 140px (that's Goujon). I strongly recommend not making this the image hook for the Bastille Day set. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
