Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hello, please note that this means you should not be editing anything related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, as you recently did here . Rainsage (talk) 02:03, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't realize that. EaglesFan37 (talk) 02:24, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
no worries. once you have 500 edits and have been on the site for 30 days, you can start editing in this topic area. Rainsage (talk) 02:48, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
Now that you are ECR, I suggest adding Template:ct/aware Metallurgist (talk) 05:19, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Kline. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Dafna Hochman Rand, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Klinetalkcontribs 21:14, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

@[[User:Kline|Kline]Does that apply to adding people to categories? My edit was moving Dafna Hochman Rand from "American Women in Politics" to "Jewish American Women in Politics." Hochman Rand is Jewish, but the only way to definitively confirm that is through this:https://issuu.com/jewishnews/docs/jjn_oct_13/17, which can be verified as her in this: https://www.foreign.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/cdc9f436-067f-47c9-59e5-58030dc0ec9a/020824_Rand_Testimony.pdf. EaglesFan37 (talk) 21:37, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
@EaglesFan37 I would argue so, since there is no content in the article supporting the claim that she is Jewish, and of course, being Jewish is a contentious topic nowadays in American politics. You can add those sources in the article; that would probably be fair at that point to add the category. Cheers, Klinetalkcontribs 21:41, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
@EaglesFan37 yes, it applies to categories too. Pretty much everything related to a person's identity needs to be cited in a WP:BLP. It looks like you're doing a good job citing most of your edits now but you still have a few like this one (which I undid) where no source is given and there is nothing in the existing article that verifies she is Jewish. Jamedeus (talk) 03:19, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
@Jamedeus The issue with the Darcia Grayber article is that I can't cite the source.
https://content.civicplus.com/api/assets/8e195b66-7e92-4e95-85b1-e8deb9ad78a9?cache=1800. This clearly states that she is Jewish, but wikipedia doesn't accept this type of file as a citation. EaglesFan37 (talk) 03:25, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
I don't see a problem with that source, its an official statement from the mayor of a large city in her district. Yes it would nice if the URL wasn't a CDN but that's just how it goes for local politicians sometimes (only took me 15 seconds to find it linked on their .gov). You can use Template:Cite web for PDFs, there are even optional fields to label them.
Feel free to add it back, just make sure you have a cited statement in personal life saying she's Jewish in addition to the category. Jamedeus (talk) 04:09, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Bare URLs

Please stop using Wikipedia:Bare URLs and go through your contributions to fix all bare URLs you’ve added. You can use the cite web feature to automatically fill out your references. Bare URLs are uninformative to readers and vulnerable to link rot.

Thanks, aesurias (talk) 05:17, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

@AesuriasI can go back and fix it, but is there any easy way to tell which of my edits have Bare URLS? EaglesFan37 (talk) 05:19, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
The link I sent shows examples of bare URLs. You will just need to go through manually but I’d say almost all of them (at least for politics/election pages) based off the select number of edits I’ve seen. See Wikipedia:CITEWEB for a guide on how references should be formatted. aesurias (talk) 05:24, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
@AesuriasI'll try to get it done over the next few days. EaglesFan37 (talk) 05:27, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks! aesurias (talk) 05:28, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
@AesuriasI tried to start fixing some, but the main issue is that I'm not sure how to have it automatically fill out when it's in an endorsement box. I'll try to figure that out. EaglesFan37 (talk) 06:19, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
Use the cite web dropdown feature. It doesn’t matter that it’s in an endorsements box.
@Yoblyblob could you describe this better for me as I’m on mobile edit and it doesn’t show for me?
Thanks both! aesurias (talk) 06:26, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
The dropdown only appears on source editing, but I find it to be the best. I would recommend trying to regularly use source editing if you do not already. When on it, the top of the editor box has different buttons, clicking on cite shows a row just below it, where you can click the template button, followed by cite web. I have found that to be the best way at least for me Yoblyblob (Talk) :) 17:00, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
@Aesurias@Yoblyblob I've fixed the Bare URLS for Arizona and California. It will take me a few days to get through all the rest of the states. EaglesFan37 (talk) 18:08, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks! i'll try work on some other ones. aesurias (talk) 23:18, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
it's actually optional to fill in Bare URLs, but it would be nice and is a good skill to learn. Rainsage (talk) 21:58, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
I never claimed anything to the contrary. But after I saw hundreds of edits to election pages, all with bare URLs and most with duplication (so that the same bare URL would show up many times in the ref list), I decided to initiate this conversation. aesurias (talk) 22:00, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
great. so we are all on the same page. Rainsage (talk) 22:04, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
@Rainsage@Aesurias. I've already fixed it for Arizona, California, Colorado, Colorado, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. EaglesFan37 (talk) 22:37, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
That's great! I've been working on some where I see them, including on some of the Arizona pages. It may be helpful to copy out a template for each group and save them so you can just copy and paste (i.e. for J Street just copy out one example of the Cite web template for it, and then you don't need to manually do it each time) aesurias (talk) 22:54, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
@Aesurias I already have it memorized for J Street, Jewish Democratic Council of America, etc.
The main pages left would be Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia, although there are some on other articles as well. EaglesFan37 (talk) 22:57, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
I just fixed the Nevada, Virginia & Oregon House pages, I will work on the others. Thanks for letting me know aesurias (talk) 23:00, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
@Aesurias There are still other pages that would have some here or there, those are just the most prominent that I can recall. I can work through them throughout the week. EaglesFan37 (talk) 23:09, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
It's okay if it's just a few things. Myself and other users will come across them and fix when we see them, so don't stress or anything. :) aesurias (talk) 23:23, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

@Thilio. The two links that are from "Vanderbilt Commodores" are from the Vanderbilt Commodores section of Sports Illustrated's website (Called Vanderbilt Commodores on Sports Illustrated, although , though I think the automatic citations just shortened it to Vanderbilt Commodores.
Full Links to clearly show the Sports Illustrated part:

Since those sources are from Sports Illustrated, would those (along with the Utah Utes from Sports Illustrated, The Tennessean, Desert News, and Fort-Worth Star Telegram, would that be enough to meet notability? EaglesFan37 (talk) 16:23, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Content assessment/Requests

Hello! I saw some of your edit summaries at this page and I wanted to drop by with a quick message to hopefully clear things up :).

This page is a place to request general assessment of almost any article, regardless of the WikiProject. You are free to make requests there at any time. To request independent assessment, one can also/additionally go to individual WikiProjects, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Assessment. If someone from WikiProject Baseball stumbles upon it and assesses an article before someone at WP:ASSESS/REQ does, that's totally fine; we'll just mark it as already done!

The general page was set up, in my view, because it is helpful for WikiProjects that are less active, or for pages that don't fit any specific WikiProject. And it's just helpful to have a general, centralized place for any sort of requests. You are always free to list things there, wait for someone to come along organically and assess an article, or ask for assessment at a specific WikiProject (or a combination of the three).

Hope that helps :). If you've got any more questions, ask away. GoldRomean (talk) 18:16, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of second-generation NFL players, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rodney Young. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ  Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Welcome and thanks!

Welcome to ECR! you have a lot of good contributions, so glad to have you finally. Remember to stay level headed and work with other editors, even if you disagree. As you know, PIA is very contentious, and discretion is important. Many editors have crossed the line and sadly been restricted. I dont think you are doing anything wrong, but I wanted you to be aware. :) And finally, thanks so much for getting all of those pictures. Yeoman effort, or menschen effort as might be said in Yiddish. A lot of them could use a further crop, if you arent sure how to do that on Commons, I will get on it when I can. ← Metallurgist (talk) 05:23, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

@Metallurgist Thank you!
About the photos, some of the photos I was hesitant to crop more because it ended up making the photo too small. Also, I ran into an issue with a lot of the photos being nominated for deletion to copyright issues (didn't realize that cropping Wikimedia commons photos to only show the "Bring Them Home Now" poster was a copyright issue). EaglesFan37 (talk) 05:58, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
Yea, be careful with that. Dont want you to get blocked for copyvio. I am planning to reach out to the Hostages Forum for help with getting good photos released. I just havent had the time and just getting over a nasty illness. I should really make that a priority, as that is what will bring the list to FL status, along with completing every box. ← Metallurgist (talk) 06:11, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
@Metallurgist I'm probably done doing photos for the time being in order to be safe, but I can try to fill in birthdays and more citizenships down the line (albeit a lot of that information at this point is likely going to be found on social media, which isn't an acceptable wikipedia source.
I can also try to make more articles for individual hostages, but I'm running into issues about which hostages merit stand-alone articles and which ones should be grouped together. The hostage families with one more particularly covered hostage member (Cunios, Siegels, Shohams, Kaldeorns, etc) are particularly challenging. Then there is the Goldstein-Almog family, which has enough coverage for an article, but that family had the father and eldest child killed on 10/7, so not sure how that effects the article. A lot of articles are being made by users right now (I did one for Arbel Yehoud, other users new ones for Gadi Moses, Avinatan Or, and Elkana Bohbot (Bohbot's article has very serious copyvio issues).
I'll start on an article for Avigail Idan soon (since that one should be relatively straightforward). EaglesFan37 (talk) 06:32, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
@Metallurgist About the pictures, essentially every photo that wasn't of an actual person or a mural of a child taken hostage was nominated for deletion. There are some photos not on wikipedia that should be usable (such as the photo of Joe Biden holding Avigail Idan, since White House photos are public domain).
I'll try to get articles for Avigail Idan and Amit Soussana done in the next few days, but I'm not sure how many more hostages can receive articles before notability concerns start popping up (around 10% of the hostages already have articles). EaglesFan37 (talk) 05:01, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
Which were nominated for deletion? Are they gone already or pending? We are going to have issues with that kind of thing until we can get good photos and releases for them. I still need to work on that notability list to help guide creation... Some are going to not make it, but we will do what we can. As much as I wish I started this in 2023, there are some things that are easier now with this. ← Metallurgist (talk) 01:07, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
@Metallurgist
I removed all those nominated for deletion, which were any cropped hostage poster. They are still pending on Wikimedia.
In my opinion, the most particularly notable ones left are:
David Cunio: Prior Career as Actor, Film With Wikipedia Article Made About Him (A Letter To David), Coverage Specific to Him.
Guy Gilboa-Dalal: Has Coverage Specific to Him due to appearances in two different Hamas videos, testified about sexual abuse in captivity.
Keith & Aviva Siegel: Have been covered/interviewed by basically every major American outlet at this point in time.
Amit Soussana: First Hostage to testify about sexual abuse, received International Women of Courage Award from U.S. State department
Avigail Idan: Received significant coverage at the time of her captivity due to the circumstances (Orphaned toddler with American citizen) and still has update articles to the day
Emily Hand: Received a lot of coverage at the time due to originally being declared dead (with father's reaction going viral) to being discovered to be alive, some coverage since
Ran Gvili: Last remaining hostage and has received significant coverage for that.
In all honesty, basically every hostage received some sort of TOI/JPost coverage and likely could have an argument be made for, but I'm not sure if that's the way to go down, especially if there isn't a specific notability trigger for that hostage. Some of the ones that currently exist could possibily fail an AFD if someone cared to file one (Elkana Bohbot would get removed for copyvio, Avinatan Or, Bar Kupershtein, and Matan Angrest could be at risk for notability). EaglesFan37 (talk) 03:03, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
I think there are more than these that could pass, but its a question of which. Some of the Thai hostages received ongoing coverage in various media. Why would that one fail copyvio? And what are the issues with the others. We can try to rectify those issues. It might be worth pointing out concerns on the TP for what "needs improvement". ← Metallurgist (talk) 04:00, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
@Metallurgist Elkana Bohbot would be at risk because there are two sources with 40+% similarity, and a lot of the article is quotes. I've already tagged that page. Looking over Bar Kupershtein, there are two sources with other 45% similarities.
As for Matan Angrest, Bar Kupershtein, and Avinatan Or, the issue is that I'm not sure they would meet notability.
I can't really check sourcing for Matan Angrest and Avinatan Or because those pages are just translated from Hebrew wiki. Matan Angrest's article features a lot of quotes and if it comes down to an AFD about notability (where being a hostage isn't enough), there isn't a particular notability trigger that could be used to justify the article.
As for Avinatan Or, again I cannot read the Hebrew sources, but most of the coverage/mentions I've seen regarding him seem to be that he's Noa Argamani's boyfriend, and that most of the coverage on him usually is a piece that prominently features/is about Noa. It's to the extent that when he was released, news coverage showing hostage reunions sometimes's didn't even refer to him by name (which probably does not matter for wikipedia, but just how he seems to be viewed as 'Noa Argamani's boyfriend.'
Some of the Thai hostages could possibly pass (I know Sriaroun Watchara received BBC coverage a few times), but WP:SIGCOV is going to be very difficult. EaglesFan37 (talk) 06:13, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
Also on that note, I’m not sure how Yannai and Liel Hetzroni have separate stand-alone articles. EaglesFan37 (talk) 06:23, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

@Wisenerd
Thank you for reviewing (or starting to review) the article!
Looking at the review so far, I did want to clarify a few things mentioned.
The sources did describe it as a correspondence, though they did not specify who the intermediaries were specifically (because I doubt either of them knows who in the PIJ was transporting the messages).
Both NBC and PBS described her delayed release as one of the first major crisis's , . NYT also described the situation as a crisis , PBS.
She was the only female hostage held by the PIJ after November 2023, PIJ hostages tended to be held entirely alone (which was not the case for the majority of the hostages Hamas held after November 2023, although a few were alone for the entirety/majority/significant chunks of their captivity).
I can expand the lead/add more details about her recovery today. EaglesFan37 (talk) 18:06, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
Okay, I'm going to get feedback from a more experienced reviewer. My review is not entirely finished and there are some critiques I have that haven't been written out yet. For the outlets, I would specify if it was a notable outlet that describes it as a first major crisis or, better yet, if you could reference a specific voice of authority (say Trump, Biden, Starmer, or a professor who heads an Israel studies department at their university). I would also make sure the article isn't using weasel words and words that have a recency bias. Wisenerd (talk) 20:08, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
@Wisenerd Several major WP:RS news outlets described the holdup as a major crisis/complication. I'm not entirely sure which ones to reference, but it was universally described as such. However, I can work on fixing that. EaglesFan37 (talk) 20:41, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
@Wisenerd I significantly expanded upon the lead of the article and tried to address your other concerns. EaglesFan37 (talk) 22:39, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Kendall Myers - Deaths in 2026

Hi. Please don't add sources to the list which fail to give the correct confirmation that a death has occurred. Zero result locators are not a basis on which to add any alleged deceased to the list, and should not be in use in Myers' article either. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 19:36, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

@Refsworldlee If you fill in Walter Kendall Myers into the BOP inmate locator, it says that he died on March 12, 2026. EaglesFan37 (talk) 20:20, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
@Refsworldlee Or if you copy and paste his register number: 29796-016. EaglesFan37 (talk) 20:24, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
That's as maybe, but if you don't know his full name offhand or his number (who would?), it's wholly unsatisfactory as a source for a death. Ref (chew)(do) 20:27, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

However, given the fact that it is a searchable source and the information comes up when required, I have restored your entry in Deaths in 2026. I felt it crucial that his full name and his reference number should be made obvious, so I included both as part of the title/headline. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 20:35, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

@Refsworldlee For some reason, the inmate locator only links to the locator itself, not the exact profile. It's the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, so he's 1000% dead, but it just hasn't been reported in any outlets yet. I'm sorry for the confusion/lack of a more navigable source. Hi EaglesFan37, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.

This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

Re Nishidani

Hi, just regarding the current AE filing, can I ask how you know about the incident with Nishidani as it happened over a year before you created an account? Also some of your first edits include adding categories to articles which is unusual for a newbie, have you had a previous account by any chance? Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 16:12, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

@Kowal2701 I have not had a previous account. For the AE filing, I and .
I started with categories when I was beginning on Wikipedia because I was not very comfortable editing content at first, and I felt more comfortable adding categories while I was still getting my feet wet. EaglesFan37 (talk) 16:16, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Unnecessary draftification

Hi! I see you moved Draft:Jeffery Beam to draftspace. Please see WP:DRAFTNO reason #6: "Another editor has asserted that the page belongs in mainspace". In the history of Draft:Jeffery Beam, you can see that another editor (me) declined a prod nomination, which is an assertion that the article belongs in mainspace. The article at Draft:Lizzie No had a previously declined speedy nomination. Draft:Laura K. Martin was moved to mainspace by somebody other than the draft creator. Please review your other draftify actions to check for this and undo unnecessary moves.

Please also see WP:ATD-I - draftification is appropriate if an article does not meet Wikipedia's quality standards, so if you draftify an article, it is appropriate to first explain why you think the article does not meet standards. For example, in the case of Jeffery Beam, the article certainly needs work, but the citations demonstrate notability, each section has at least one citation, and the promotional content is not particularly excessive. Please also note the step at WP:ATD-I of "Notify the creator of the article".

I appreciate people volunteering for new pages patrol, just good to take some care especially with articles that have already had some attention from editors other than the creator. Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 14:09, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

May 2026 Administrator Elections – Discussion Phase

The discussion phase of the May 2026 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • May 8–12: Discussion phase (we are here)
  • May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Discussion phase.

On 13 May, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for.

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

May 2026 Administrator Elections – Voting Phase

The voting phase of the May 2026 administrator elections has started and will continue until 19 May 2026 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase (we are here)
  • Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

New Page Patrol Newsletter - May 2026

Hello EaglesFan37,

New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026

Backlog update

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.

Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

BoyTheKingCanDance, Rosiestep, SunDawn, and Vanderwaalforces were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

January–February backlog drive

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

May backlog drive

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026.

PageTriage

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.

pia/gensex?

Hey, EF! Didn't want to further bloat the discussion there, but I'm wondering what you mean by a joint PIA/GENSEX case? Maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet, but I'm only recalling one place where it's been overlapping. Can you clarify what you're seeing? Valereee (talk) 12:39, 15 May 2026 (UTC)

@Valereee
I have absolutely zero involvement in GENSEX, but looking at EIAs , it looks like a lot of the same users that are often getting into disputes at Talk:Zionism and other similar PIA pages are also involved in Talk:Imane Khelif, Talk:Persecution of transgender people under the second Trump administration, and other related noticeboards. EaglesFan37 (talk) 13:22, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I think it's more that some editors are simply drawn to CTOPs. Khelif was the one I was thinking of when I said I could only think of one place where PIA intersected with GENSEX in cases before AE. Valereee (talk) 14:18, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
@Valereee
The same users are constantly involved in talk pages on this topic that are repeatedly ending up in arbcom or noticeboards. In the Maghreb proposed decision talk page, there were a lot of users questioning how M.Bitton's conduct had continue on for several years despite frequent reports to admin noticeboards, and that his conduct had been enabled by others (which is what the current AE case is about). Given that M.Bitton was involved in PIA and GENSEX, the plethora of users involved in disputes in both CTOPs, and the large numbers of users with grievances (surrounding that and each other's conduct), it may be easiest to sort all of that out in another ARBCOM case. EaglesFan37 (talk) 15:26, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
We already have Khelif under special restrictions per Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement/Archive366#Talk:Imane_Khelif. That is as far as I know the only article talk outside of PIA that has needed this. Valereee (talk) 16:53, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
@Valereee My main concern is PIA, but enough users are involved in GENSEX as well that it could end up being both. I will say that it's hard to spot patterns across discussions/pages without particularly looking for it, and that ARBCOM seems to lead to a clearer view of a situation.
On an unrelated note, there is one Wikipedian who has repeatedly added positive/removed negative content from progressive congressional primary candidates, and added negative/removed positive content from their primary opponent, (this has happened in at least 4 different democratic congressional primary races). This includes ECR content (which they have been formally warned at AE not to edit in the past, which hasn't stopped them, but if I file another request, they'll accuse me of hounding). EaglesFan37 (talk) 17:36, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
Well, unless there's more to the story, it's not hounding to file a case. Valereee (talk) 18:59, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
@Valereee
Backstory: The user created wikipedia articles for three progressive political candidates that I nominated for deletion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Junaid Ahmed (2nd nomination), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Darializa Avila Chevalier, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Melat Kiros. The Melat Kiros one is particularly relevant.

Mapping the PIA topic area

Hi, re: Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection/Batch requests (which I appreciate), if you think something is within the Arab-Israeli conflict topic area, in whole or in part, it's useful to template the talk page to alert editors about the ECR rules and ensure that the talk page is automatically added to Category:Wikipedia_pages_subject_to_the_extended_confirmed_restriction_related_to_the_Arab-Israeli_conflict (if the whole article is covered by ECR) or Category:Wikipedia pages subject to the extended confirmed restriction (if only parts of the article are covered by ECR). Maybe you already know this, but you can use {{Contentious topics/talk notice|a-i}} if the whole article is covered by ECR or {{Contentious topics/talk notice|a-i|section=yes}} if the article is only partly covered. Or just use the Template:ARBPIA shortcut. The automatic categorization triggered by the templates is maybe the best way we have to identify what is inside the topic area. Request for review by extended-confirmed editor

This draft was declined because it concerns the Palestine–Israel topic area and was written by a non-extended-confirmed user. I understand that I should not resubmit or substantially edit the draft myself while this restriction applies.

The subject is ''Gaza In My Phone'', a 2025 book by Mazen Kerbaj, published by OR Books. The book has received coverage or reviews in ''The New Arab'', ''Broken Frontier'', ''Graphic Medicine'', and ''European Comic Art''.

I am requesting that an uninvolved extended-confirmed editor review the cited sources and, if appropriate, rewrite, develop, or submit the draft independently for neutrality and compliance with Wikipedia policy.

Speedy deletion declined: List of oldest living olympians

Hello EaglesFan37. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of List of oldest living olympians, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Already previously declined - facts cannot be copyrighted. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 17:05, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

@Whpq The exact table is clearly and pasted over, and the table itself is under copyright. .
The previous request was declined by the article creator, whose justification was this .
Also found another clear instance of copyright violations on another article they wrote, Lucio Chiquito Caicedo. EaglesFan37 (talk) 17:10, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
Facts are not copyrightable. The expression or presentation of the facts can be copyrighted. There is no creative information in that list that would give rise to copyright. Note that this article was already tagged earlier as a copyright violation by another editor, and that was declined by a different administrator, User:The4lines. As for the other page, yes that is a copyright violation and I have deleted the page and left the editor a note with more information about our copyright policy. -- Whpq (talk) 17:38, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
@Whpq I guess what I'm not understanding is that the user reformatted a list from another site (keep all the same criteria (Olympian, Birth Date, County, Sport, Gold Medals, Silver rMedals, Bronze Medals, Total Medals, Olympic Year), straight up said that they copied it from a website that has a copyright protection , did not cite the website, and that isn't considered a G12? EaglesFan37 (talk) 17:57, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
Again, facts can't be copyrighted. It doesn't matter if the source site claims a copyright, if that copyright claim is not valid. An Olympian's age, sport, medals, etc are all facts and cannot be copyrighted. A simple table of information is also not copyrightable as it is a bog standard way of presenting these facts that requires no creativity. Contrast this with the "Lucio Chiquito Caicedo" article where the first edit was pasting in the source text. Facts about Caicedo cannot be copyrighted, but the creative presentation of those facts can be copyrighted. That creative presentation was the expression of the facts in sentences and paragraphs. -- Whpq (talk) 18:35, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
@Whpq That explains it. Thank you for your patience! EaglesFan37 (talk) 18:36, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
No problems. Copyright is a very confusing area. -- Whpq (talk) 19:26, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

@Whpq Should this be a WP:PROD then? The subject clearly isn't notable for an article. EaglesFan37 (talk) 19:09, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
It's a draft. Editors use draft space to develop articles free from needing to meet the stricter standards of article space. That includes working on topics that might not be notable. Whpq (talk) 19:18, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
@Whpq For my own understanding for the future, does that also apply to making articles about random high school students. EaglesFan37 (talk) 19:25, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Drafts are not checked for notability or sanity is an essay that provides a good perspective on this sort of stuff. Remember draft space is not article space. Whoever is editing the draft is likely to get bored of it in due time and then WP:G13 will kick in. -- Whpq (talk) 19:30, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Draft:Glororor

Hello EaglesFan37. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Draft:Glororor, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not nonsense - there is meaningful content. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 02:43, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

@Whpq The topic being discussed does not actually exist anywhere on the internet. EaglesFan37 (talk) 02:53, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
Per WP:G1, In short, if it is understandable, G1 does not apply. It may be crap, but it is not unintelligible. It read like somebody's personal fiction writing. -- Whpq (talk) 11:04, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
@Whpq Looks like it ended up getting deleted under WP:G3 EaglesFan37 (talk) 18:34, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Draft:RCM Utilites

Hello EaglesFan37, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Draft:RCM Utilites, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. CoconutOctopus talk 20:43, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Hi @EaglesFan37, on a somewhat related note, there is zero point in nominating a draft such as Draft:Jake_K._Ankomah for deletion as vandalism. This draft has not been edited in over 5 months and would have been automatically deleted in less than a month anyway; it is not exactly "obvious vandalism" rather it is clearly someone writing a childish draft about themselves or a friend. Your time is better spent patrolling the many drafts that are waiting on review at AfC, or recent changes if you want to fight vandalism. CoconutOctopus talk 20:46, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
@CoconutOctopus Noted. EaglesFan37 (talk) 21:01, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Your recent Speedy deletions

Hi, I noticed you marked next pages for speedy deletion: Mauro Pietro Negri, Eike Neubert and Robert F. Myers. I would like to point you to the guidelines regarding Wikipedia:Soft redirects, especially Wikipedia:Wikimedia sister projects#Soft redirects from Wikipedia to a sister project. You will find that these type of redirects are allowed, promoted even. Currently 1,200+ redirect pages exist pointing to wikispecies. And wikispecies is just one of several sister projects being redirected to. Mill 1 (talk) 18:28, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

@Mill 1 For some reason, these pages ended up in the new articles section, not the redirects section. Feel free to contest the deletion. EaglesFan37 (talk) 18:36, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Hello @EaglesFan37, I just noticed you deleted all the three articles created by @Mill 1. Was there any particular reason for that delition ?. As it was just created by him and you did AfD. I expect a response towards this. Regards, VerdictByLogic - Let's Discuss 18:41, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Context: I have created hundreds of these soft redirects to wikispecies. Periodically a (new) NPP-er will put them in draft space or tag them for speedy deletion. I removed the tags. Mill 1 (talk) 18:50, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Oh cool! you may even take my assistance for that, it will be a great pleasure working with an experience editor. Thanks. VerdictByLogic - Let's Discuss 18:54, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
@VerdictByLogic The article had no content, so I nominated them for CSD. I'm not sure why soft redirects end up in the new articles section of NPP instead of the redirects section.
As it was just created by him and you did AfD. I expect a response towards this.
These weren't articles you created, you aren't an admin or a NPP, and I'd already responded to @Mill 1 about the articles in question where I wrote Feel free to contest the deletion. I'm not sure why you decided to jump into the conversation and demand answers.
@Mill 1 If this is something that happens frequently, I'd encourage you to request AutoPatroller. EaglesFan37 (talk) 19:28, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for that, I'll look into it. Mill 1 (talk) 19:38, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
@Mill 1 It looks like you have over 8000 page creations, with only 72 deleted. You should definitely apply for it. Not only would it prevent things like this from happening, but it would also save time for NPP patrollers as well. EaglesFan37 (talk) 19:48, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Thx, I am writing the application as we speak. Mill 1 (talk) 19:51, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
I was just patrolling the changes and I saw this, thus I just confirmed with it. Thats, all. I don't have any issue if both of you are agree with the edit or CSD. VerdictByLogic - Let's Discuss 19:42, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Michael Levin Base article

Hello, I noticed you filed a G5 deletion request on the article I created for The Michael Levin Base. I understand the procedural reason — I was unaware my account had not reached the extended confirmed threshold for this topic area. I have noted my outreach to you on the article's talk page. I created the article in good faith and believe it meets Wikipedia's notability and sourcing standards, with multiple citations from the Jerusalem Post and other reliable sources. Given your experience editing Israel-related content, I would be grateful if you would be willing to review the article and, if you agree it merits inclusion, help move it through the proper channel. I am happy to make any content changes you suggest. Thank you. Wrongtired18 (talk) 18:52, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

@Wrongtired18 I'm sorry, but since your account does not meet ECR yet, this isn't really another channel. I do believe that the article was made in good faith, but given the current ECR requirements, there really isn't anything that I can do. You may have better luck reaching out to an admin. EaglesFan37 (talk) 19:51, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for the honest response and for acknowledging the good faith intent. I will follow your suggestion and reach out to an admin. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Wrongtired18 (talk) 19:58, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
One more thought — would you be willing to either move the article to my userspace for safekeeping while I build up my edit count, or temporarily adopt it under your own account until I reach ECR? I am happy to do all the writing and revision work; I just need someone with the right standing to shepherd it through. I completely understand if that is not something you are able to do. Wrongtired18 (talk) 20:01, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
@Wrongtired18 I'm sorry, that is not something I believe that I am able to do. EaglesFan37 (talk) 20:03, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
But you don't mind if I find a qualified editor to do that, right? I recently posted on the WikiProject Israel talk page asking for such assistance. I imagine I'll get a response within a day or two. I think the entry is legitimate, interesting, notable etc. It would be a shame if it got deleted on a technicality - although I will do whatever I can to do this properly. Again, thanks for your input!

Temporary account IP viewer granted

The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, EaglesFan37. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! — rsjaffe 🗣️ 17:48, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

An apology

Howdy!

I'm fairly certain that you are the editor who proposed an AfD regarding an article I made a few weeks ago. In discussing the article's potential deletion, I'm very sure that I lost my temper at you. That's no way an experienced editor should handle oneself, so I'm using this opportunity to apologize to you now. I'm looking beyond the warnings on your talk page now that I've calmed down. You seem to have made quite the toolbox of permissions in such a short time. I'm impressed.

Regardless, I hope you will accept this formal apology and that you will continue to edit constructively to the project. Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 20:33, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

ExpertWikiGuy

Is there anything that makes you reckon it's EWG rather than Alak? I'm going to look into it further. I've filed a lot of failed ANI and SPI requests recently so need to be on very firm ground for my next one. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 20:11, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

@Spiderone In the page log, it was first deleted for being created by an ExpertWikiGuy sock. However, Alakmarsaify has been involved in a bunch of UPE/MEAT recently, so it could be them still. Also, all the accounts creating them have already been reported to SPI and haven't been blocked. You may have better luck at COIN. EaglesFan37 (talk) 20:20, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do. I believe I'll still need some evidence at COIN and merely overlapping with other Alak/EWG socks doesn't seem to be enough. I'll have a look at some diffs in detail but there are so many new accounts popping up it's hard to keep track and hard not to feel like it's fighting a losing battle. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 21:26, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
@Spiderone There's a chance the page could get protected if requested. EaglesFan37 (talk) 21:51, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
