Playmakerstats

Hi EchetusXe. Thanks for expanding Gary Mills (footballer, born 1981). Going forward, please do not use Playmakerstats as a reference. It has been categorised as unreliable; see WP:WPFLINKSNO for details and other unreliable sources. I have removed the Playmakerstats references at Gary Mills (footballer, born 1981). Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:29, 10 January 2026 (UTC)

Career stats boxes

Please do not remove parent rows from the stats box when a player has been out on loan. That is in-line with guidance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players and prevents misleading displays and/or confusion. GiantSnowman 21:25, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

Ah, okay then. EchetusXe 21:27, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Extreme example, but one that does happen frequently - player plays for Club X, then is sold to Club Y and is immediately loaned out to Club Z. With your edits, there would be no line for Club Y, and therefore the Club Z loan spell would appear to be from Club X... GiantSnowman 21:30, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
I was taking out where players were not in the first-team squad at the parent club. But yes, I see the guidance now and it makes sense with your hypothetical example. EchetusXe 21:32, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Great, thanks. I agree taking it out at e.g. Chris Mbamba - but then would say the infobox should be changed to match the stats box (which I have now done), to again avoid any confusion. GiantSnowman 21:42, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
That's a good point actually, I hadn't thought about the infobox in terms of keeping that consistent as well. EchetusXe 21:46, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for doing this, but please would you consider tagging with {{cn}} instead so it's easily identifiable when a source has been removed? GiantSnowman 19:02, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Ah okay, I've finished doing that now. But I'll aim to periodically remove dead links and I'll try to remember for next time. EchetusXe 19:56, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Per WP:DEADLINK, we should "avoid removing citations (or cited material) simply because a URL no longer works". I would recommend instead adding links to archived versions, if available, or replacing them with alternative sources. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:06, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Frédéric Veseli

Hello. I came here to discuss the recent revert at Frédéric Veseli. The inclusion of the patronymic name from the presidential decree is not useful, as wiki generally follows the WP:COMMONNAME and MOS:FULLNAME principles by using the name which the player is commonly known in reliable sources worldwide, and presidential decree is an administrative document that includes formal ID details but not an independent reliable coverage. If there is consensus or a specific guideline I may have missed, I am open to discussing it further. I also reused the source more contextually by mentioning that he obtained Albanian citizenship in order to represent Albania internationally. Eni.Sukthi.DurrësAlbania 17:30, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Hi, yes you can reinsert the Albanian citizenship sentence and source. MOS does not prohibit inclusion of a full legal name if it is verifiable and relevant. The presidential decree is an official government document establishing the player's Albanian citizenship and records his legal identity details. Where known, footballer biographies include full legal names in the opening sentence while still using the common professional name for the article title and throughout the article. As a side note, he was known as Freddie Veseli in England, but the article title was changed after he seemed to go by Frédéric in Europe. As you cited WP:COMMONNAME, notice there the seven people given as examples (Gandhi through Temple), each article starts with their full name (including middle name/s) and has it in the infobox as well, whilst the article title remains their common name. We cannot have 'Frédéric Veseli' as his full name when we have sources to show that is not correct. EchetusXe 12:18, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I understand the distinction you are making between article title and legal full name. My only concern is that Albanian patronymics function mainly as administrative identifiers and are rarely used in football-related reliable secondary sources, databases or general coverage when referring to the player. Since there seems to be a genuine editorial disagreement here, it may be useful to ask for additional input at WP:FOOTY. Eni.Sukthi.DurrësAlbania 13:19, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Sure, that might prove useful. Do you have any policy related citings for the Albanian patronymics being administrative identifiers you could bring to the discussion there? EchetusXe 14:05, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Your claim is something new, as Albanian ID cards do not include patronymics in the basic displayed personal data, only in civil/administrative records. However I will only ask at WP:FOOTY for more, thank you for your collaboration. Eni.Sukthi.DurrësAlbania 14:38, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Btw, I know I was the first to introduce this method of using patronymic full names for Albanian players based mainly on presidential decrees back when I started editing and developing between 2013–2018, but after gaining more experience I’ve been gradually cleaning up those inclusions.
