Question from BookAndPaper (11:40, 8 June 2026)
Hello! There is an article for British Museum Leather Dressing, which is tiny, and I'd like to rework it as just “Leather Dressing” of which BM is a subset - there are a lot of comments to make about leather dressings in general and it’s not the only type anyway. I was hoping I could just change the title, and move the existing text under a subheading, but I don’t see how/if I can do that? --BookAndPaper (talk) 11:40, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- Interesting one! Here's how I'd do it:
- Go to the Leather dressing page and remove the redirect template.
- Write an article on leather dressing as normal, with a subsection for "British Museum leather dressing". As part of this, you may move some content from the existing article (remember to say so in your edit summary).
- You then have two options:
- If you feel what's left in British Museum leather dressing could stand alone as an article, fill that subsection with a short summary of it and use the {{main article}} template to direct readers to the full article.
- If everything of value in British Museum leather dressing would be better placed in Leather dressing, move everything useful across to Leather dressing and replace the existing British Museum leather dressing page with a redirect to the section.
- Let me know if you want any more specific advice on how to do the technical side. UndercoverClassicist T·C 12:43, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
Question from Pulsar 122 (16:28, 11 June 2026)
- Note: Pulsar 122's mentor Alyo is away.
Hello, I am working on the draft article "Government College of Engineering and Technology, Ganderbal." My submissions have been declined for not meeting notability guidelines. Can you please tell me what are my lackings there and help in publishing that Wikipedia page? --Pulsar 122 (talk) 16:28, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hello -- I assume you mean Draft:Government College of Engineering and Technology, Ganderbal? It has a notice on the top saying what needs to be fixed before it can run in mainspace, which probably puts things about as clearly as I would be able to. Have you seen that? UndercoverClassicist T·C 17:47, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- YES, I HAVE SEEN THEM BUT MY CORRECTIONS HAVEN'T BEEN GETTING THIS DRAFT INTO MAINLINED OR PUBLISHED? It would be helpful and thankful from you if you'd correct that...! Pulsar 122 (talk) 05:02, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- I would give the notice beginning
This draft's references do not show that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion for organizations and companies
another read -- it explains the problem well. To have an article in mainspace, a subject (in general) needs to have several quality published sources, such as books, journal articles, or pieces in reputable newspapers, which discuss it in depth. We call this "notability", which has a slightly different meaning here than in the real world. Those sources need to be independent of the subject, so anything written by the college or associated with the college doesn't help establish notability for it. It might be that there simply aren't a whole lot of sources on the college that fit this bill, in which case it probably isn't the right time to write an article for it. That isn't a criticism of you -- some subjects simply aren't eligible for a stand-alone article under Wikipedia's policies. UndercoverClassicist T·C 06:26, 12 June 2026 (UTC)- But there are many newspapers and etc, that do acknowledge that this college exists beyond the Govt's own sources like: College websites, or even Director of Colleges mentioning about it. However, I would like your help if you can just do three things: a. In the talk of this article or page I've pasted number of refrences about this college irrespective of college sources you can easily say they are independant as they cover from wide space media sources, although yes an acknowledgemengt is: The place where the said college is itself not having so many news independant sources, however if you'd take into account several other different universities and colleges in the same state they do have their wiki pages? Nevertheless, if ypou can help by adding some points on how to make refrences on wiki page I'd do that without any hesitation and I'd ask you too can you help to create this page and also I have pasted many refrences on the last edit, however i dont exactly know their format of entry on the page some werent closed by me on their headers etc that you can see via the page. I'd be honoured if you would assist me with doing so. Thanks...? Pulsar 122 (talk) 09:35, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Reference formatting isn't an important consideration at this stage: the key thing is that the sources are cited in a way that makes it possible for another editor to identify them. A URL is sufficient as a bare minimum; you might want to check out the {{cite web}} template for a more sophisticated way of doing it. In other respects I think you're better communicating with the AfC reviewer. In particular, regarding

: it doesn't matter whether other colleges have articles; the only relevant question is whether this college has received significant coverage in independent reliable sources. If it hasn't, then it's not ready for a stand-alone article at this time. UndercoverClassicist T·C 17:09, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
