Template:IMDb ID

Per WP:IMDB, IMDb should not be used as references. This template not only did not get support from the linked discussion, but had only opposition to creating it. The single current usage, is also incorrectly used (which wouldn't of happened, if this template did not exist). Gonnym (talk) 08:27, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

  • Keep. This template is fully compatible with all policies and guidelines and does not use IMDb as a reference, but rather only as an identifier. This template was in use until someone removed all transclusions without discussion. Daask (talk) 15:01, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
    Where was the support for its creation at Wikipedia talk:IMDb link templates#IMDB as an identifier in citations? Why is IMDb needed as an identifier in citations? Gonnym (talk) 16:12, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
    It appears that Gonnym was the user who removed the transclusions. It seems improper to me to remove transclusions and then use the lack of use as a justification for deletion. Daask (talk) 20:30, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
    @Gonnym: Including identifiers such as IMDb is urged by the guideline at Wikipedia:Citing sources § Links and ID numbers. There is a script at User:Daask/MultiResolver which makes these IMDb identifiers link to a variety of sources and databases in addition to IMDb itself. Daask (talk) 20:30, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
