Mark Milano page decline

MSK,

Sorry, I began editing, and first section gave me a Publish button after I was done editing that section. I could not find another button to save changes, and I apparently resubmitted. Please decline and send it back to me. I'll figure out how to make and save changes for each section. MedillMSJ (talk) 19:08, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

I think I figured it out. Please give me specific examples of bias you see in the article. I eliminated a number of adjectives, but everything else is supported with citations. Thanks. MedillMSJ (talk) 19:16, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
Did you use AI to help you write that draft? Using AI to write new articles is prohibited. msk 19:21, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
No, I'm a professional journalist (two degrees, 40+ years experience), conducted the research, found the citations and wrote this original article. I recently attended Milano's memorial service and was inspired to create this page. MedillMSJ (talk) 19:26, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick answer. I'm going to be busy for the next hour or so, but after that, I'll try to provide some examples of bias in the article. While you wait, I recommend reading the policies on NPOV and NOTABILITY. msk 19:32, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
Checking back in... MedillMSJ (talk) 21:46, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
Sorry about the delay, I forgot about this. Some examples:
  • helping save millions of lives this is probably subjective, and shouldn't be presented as fact
  • landmark HIV-discrimination lawsuit landmark is also a subjective descriptor.
The draft presents a lot of subjective opinions/descriptors as fact, which shouldn't be done with WikiVoice. msk 16:00, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
I do not see "a lot of" subjective opinions/descriptors in the article.
I deleted "landmark," although, in terms of law, this suit WAS a landmark, meaning it set new precedent in ADA law that will allow other plaintiff's to sue and win under the same points of law.
He also DID help save millions of lives, as my citation pointed out. The Gore protest and subsequent change of the Clinton/U.S. policy towards generic AIDS drugs in Africa has saved an estimated 26 million lives to date. His work in AIDS education also has helped save countless lives - but I still deleted that.
If what is holding up this page is simply a list of adjectives that could easily be deleted, can you delete them, or at least ask me for the sources?
Thanks. MedillMSJ (talk) 16:38, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
Checking back in... MedillMSJ (talk) 22:36, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
I think I've put my finger on why the draft reads so promotional.
  • the draft introduces Mark as one of the world’s longest-surviving HIV patients, instead of going over what they did (e.g. see George Washington, George Washington was a Founding Father and the first president of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797.) Opening with his work as an AIDS activist.
  • The lead section should summarize the entire article, not just greatest accomplishments.
  • Almost no information on early life (where/when he was born, education, occupation), this would be a good addition so that the entire article isn't just about him and HIV.
  • Right now the article is very borderline WP:NBIO and more notability-establishing sources would be helpful.
  • Most of the article goes into unnecessary detail on his work, e.g. the "Other activities included" paragraph in the Grass Roots Activism section could probably be cut
  • Asare, who earned his medical degree from a school in Ukraine, is now selling a “miracle superfruit,” according to his LinkedIn page. While incredibly funny, probably not relevant.
  • A lot of the article is still unsourced, or the sourcing is unclear.
Sorry for the late reply. msk 00:30, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments.
Noting that someone survived a deadly disease (that typically claimed lives in a matter of months in its early years) for 45 years is not “promotional”
Establishing early on that Milano was one of the world’s longest-surviving HIV patients is almost enough to justify his inclusion in Wikipedia.
This will not only pique people’s interest about him, but it also explains his credibility as an activist and it makes him a unique figure in this area. By some accounts, Milano was the second-longest surviving HIV patient in human history.
If he had done nothing other than survive HIV for 45 years, that alone might qualify him for inclusion in Wikipedia.
However, I moved this FACT down, because it is an incredibly rare occurrence for someone to survive HIV for 45 years.
“Right now the article is very borderline WP:NBIO “
I think we are safe here. No one can possibly believe that Mark Milano is not a notable feature, based on his world fame in HIV and AIDS activism and what he accomplished. There are countless porn stars, one-hit-wonder musicians, novelty songs, one-term politicians and non-Hall of fame athletes who have Wikipedia pages.
If you have not, please read the sources I’ve included.
Please also do a Google search of Mark Milano and read what you find.
“Other activities included paragraph in the Grass Roots Activism section could probably be cut.”
You ask that I add information about his notability, then suggest I cut out that he disrupted a President George Bush fundraiser, disrupted White House Chief of Staff Andy Card during THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION and other items that give context to his decades-long activism against the discrimination of the LBGTQ community.
Interrupting a sitting U.S. president during his speech is about as high-level as activism gets.
As far as sourcing, let’s discuss further work on this once you have made your determination as to whether or not Mark Milano is notable.
If so, please note what you need cited. MedillMSJ (talk) 01:16, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
Hopefully this should be helpful. msk 03:03, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
·       https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/wellness/story/friend-friend-dying-hiv-survivors-back-past-30-59468714 - borderline SIGCOV and not independent
Good Morning America is a credible source. This source was used to confirm the fact in the submitted Wikipedia article that Milano was diagnosed with AIDS in 1982.
To re-cap – I wrote that Milano was diagnosed in 1982 and used a credible source to confirm that.

This source was used to confirm that Milano had a kidney transplant. POZ is considered a reliable Wikipedia source (according to Google’s AI results). Can we use this source…
https://www.poz.com/article/rip-mark-milano-fierce-tireless-hiv-activist-treatment-educator
Milano was interviewed by several sources that might biased when discussing political, religious or other subjective topics, but there is no conspiracy here to mislead the public that Mark Milano had a kidney transplant. A simple Google search shows Mark Milano had a kidney transplant.
·       https://gaycitynews.com/remembering-mark-milano-a-committed-activist-in-the-fight-against-hiv-aids/ - questionably independent, quote: We had been planning with Mark a celebration to honor him with a Global Health Justice award in January. Gay City News is also questionably reliable, see this discussion. This might be counted towards notability in the event of an deletion request.
Let’s use your use of the Wikipedia discussion of Gay City News’ reliability to decide. Five votes yes, two votes no. An eighth vote was that it was reliable, but had “limited” reliability. A tenth commentor wrote, “The comments by a percentage of editors speaking against Gay City News read to me as if they're they're reflecting a personal issue with the publication, rather than a more broad-based journalistic concern.”
So, based on your recommendation that we look at the discussion, it appears that 80% of the comments do not find Gay City News unreliable.

I replaced this source with CBS News

·       https://everloved.com/life-of/mark-milano/obituary/ - not independent, though would be useful for the early life stuff I mentioned earlier.
The end result of these changes is that we have multiple credible sources for facts included in this story about one of the world’s most well-known AIDS activists, who has been featured in articles by The New York Times, CBS News, FOX News and ABC’s Good Morning America. MedillMSJ (talk) 00:33, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
I was just analyzing how those sources contribute to notability, not whether they should or shouldn't be used - non-independent sources can still be used for WP:ABOUTSELF information. I'm just saying that, with the sourcing right now, notability is barely evident at best. msk 01:26, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
So while Milano's notability is "barely" evident, you're saying it IS evident, correct?
We have CBS News, FOX News, ABC and The New York Times covering one of the world's most respected (but evidently not covered by X number of websites) AIDS activists. And I've included other sources that don't violate Wikipedia's source guidelines.
How many sources does Wikipedia say you must have?
I understand that just because someone is world-famous and a major contributor to major societal issues, that's apparently not what Wikipedia is about. Wikipedia is apparently about people who have earned X amount of media coverage from specific types of sources, regardless of their value to society (e.g., porn starlets, one-hit wonders, baseball players).
Regarding, "non-independent sources CAN STILL BE USED for WP:ABOUTSELF information," can I re-insert the ones I deleted?
Again, you just said Milano IS notable, so what is the next step?
Thanks for your help, so far. MedillMSJ (talk) 01:46, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
So while Milano's notability is "barely" evident, you're saying it IS evident, correct?
By "barely evident at best" I mean, if the article were to be brought to AfD, it wouldn't have a very slim chance of not getting deleted. More notability-establishing sourcing would improve the article's chances at AfD.
Wikipedia is apparently about people who have earned X amount of media coverage from specific types of sources, regardless of their value to society
Wikipedia's notability criteria can seem pretty arbitrary. A relevant essay is WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.
Regarding, "non-independent sources CAN STILL BE USED for WP:ABOUTSELF information," can I re-insert the ones I deleted?
Yes, you can re-insert those sources.
msk 02:34, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks.
How many sources beyond CBS News, FOX News, ABC and The New York Times would you recommend? MedillMSJ (talk) 02:38, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
Also, if we submit and it's rejected, is it rejected for good and can't be re-submitted, or does it come with instructions to re-submit? MedillMSJ (talk) 02:40, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

Draft:Ioan Stefan Florian

Hello, MSK!

Thank you for reviewing the draft. I would like to note that the article was manually translated and edited from the corresponding Romanian Wikipedia entry, not automatically generated. I understand there may be concerns regarding tone or sourcing, and I am working on revising the draft to better fit English Wikipedia standards. I would appreciate any specific feedback on which parts appear problematic stylistically. With all due respect. Pineallesion (talk) 21:33, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

There was consensus on the talk page in an RM to revert to "2020s energy crisis". If you believe my assessment of consensus was wrong, the place to discuss this is on my talk page (not MSK's), with potential escalation to move review if it doesn't work out. Feeglgeef (talk) 12:07, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Question regarding recruitment for an open Reward Board request

Hi MSK, I hope you are well.

I am seeking some brief guidance regarding the best way to connect with independent biographical creators within the community. I have a request listed on the Reward Board to draft a neutral, encyclopedic biography for a South African macro-economic commentator. Because I am a professional associate of the subject, I have explicitly declared my Conflict of Interest (COI) on-wiki and am strictly keeping my hands off the text to ensure full compliance with WP:BLP and WP:NPOV. I have compiled a clean, independent 7-source media dossier directly on the board.

As an active contributor to the Articles for Creation process, you have an incredible bird's-eye view of the community. Since I want to ensure this project is handled with total procedural transparency and strict adherence to content guidelines, could you kindly recommend a specific WikiProject noticeboard, working group, or a few reliable biographical editors whom I might approach directly to see if they have availability for this type of drafting work? Thank you so much for your time and for your dedication to keeping the encyclopedia's standards high. Debt Expert SA (talk) 07:23, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I would actually recommend you contact one of the companies listed here (e.g. Beutler Ink, Lumino, or EthicalWiki - be sure that they are listed under "Disclosed paid editing"), since the reward board is a lot less active than it seems. (especially for paid editing requests) msk 15:51, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
Hi MSK. Thank you for the advice, appreciated. Debt Expert SA (talk) 09:49, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Request on 18:10:47, 29 May 2026 for assistance on AfC submission by MichealSunday2026

Hello MSK,

Thank you for reviewing the draft and for your time.

I would appreciate clarification regarding the notability assessment. My understanding of the rejection is that the subject was considered not to meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria.

Since the earlier submissions, I have identified additional coverage from multiple independent national publications, including ThisDay, Punch, BusinessDay, Vanguard, The Nation, and The Sun. In particular, the ThisDay feature contains substantial biographical information about the subject's background, education, career development, and entrepreneurial activities rather than merely quoting him in connection with his company.

My intention is not to promote the subject but to understand whether the available sources are still considered insufficient for establishing notability under the General Notability Guideline. If so, I would be grateful if you could indicate what aspect of the sourcing remains inadequate so that I can improve the draft accordingly.

Thank you again for your time and guidance.

Kind regards, Adedapo Micheal Sunday

MichealSunday2026 (talk) 18:10, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I have checked the sources, and the sources do not support you being notable - e.g, the ThisDay source is not independent and reads like it is AI-generated. msk 18:30, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
Thank God you said it look like ai, something can look like ai and it’s not ai, you keep rejecting my draft, this is the second time even after adjustment and new additional publications added to it, sir, can you please kindly help me look at it carefully? None of my articles is Ai generated one, please help me to look into it… ~2026-31930-36 (talk) 19:22, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
I have looked into it, and you are not notable. That is why I rejected your draft. No amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability. By repeatedly resubmitting, you are wasting volunteer time. msk 19:26, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
Since you said no amount of editing can overcome lack of notability, so what do you used to scale or to measure notability? Because I believe I am notable enough in this space of tech especially I. Nigeria and in United states… that’s why i appeal, if am not, I won’t even border to appeal and have seen some people who are not even notable or who didn’t even have much independent sources like I do and yet they get approved with their draft, so is there anything I am missing that’s why I message you so you can clarify me sir! ~2026-31930-36 (talk) 19:30, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
Other stuff exists, that's not my problem. I am telling you that you are not notable, by the general notability guideline; if other drafts with worse sourcing were accepted, those were accepted erroneously. msk 19:39, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
It's well,
i just feel like some people are making it hard for other people to make it to this wikipidea but then, i won't give up...
Thank you very much for your time sir. MichealSunday2026 (talk) 23:05, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

Hi MSK, thank you for reviewing my submission. I'd like know better why it is considered to be AI-generated for my future submission. Since the last declines, I have re-written the article manually without any LLM support. And I have re-read the [Signs of AI writing] guideline and cannot spot any issues with it.

Also, understand that a company page may sound like a promotion, but it is a topic of interest for Hong Kong people since the founder Adrian Cheng is a famous local businessman. If it's more an issue with independent sources, I'd appreciate your confirmation.

Hello! You recently denied me creating a page for UF's Student Government due to notability. I beg to differ quite frankly. UF's Student Government is a state agency with over $22 million dollars in funding, and is one of the highest funded SG in the US. In addition, if an agency of the Student Government (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACCENT_Speakers_Bureau) and a building funded by the student government (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Florida_Southwest_Recreation_Center) both have enough notability, I would say that the SG itself does.

Draft:Cenotaph Park

Places with nationally protected status (e.g. protected areas, national heritage sites, **cultural heritage sites**) the markdown made me suspect AI, though I might be a bit too paranoid. msk 15:52, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
Hi, it was me who tried to create the "Cenotaph Park" page. Because there was not a lot of news about Cenotaph Park and I was worried that someone would reject it due to that, I added a comment to quote what I think it is the relevant notability standard and tried to make the "cultural heritage sites" bold by adding the stars (that's how I make things bold on WhatsApp) but it didn't work.
At first, I was very confused about why anyone thought it was AI, I'm a little autistic and was worried that my writing sounded like a computer, lol, but now at least I see why.
So, I'm here to say that AI had no role in this process and ask you to reconsider your decision. I think if you are even doubting the decision yourself, and someone else has raised the issue, that would be the fair thing to do, please. ~2026-33514-97 (talk) 15:08, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

Dear MSK,

Thank you for reviewing the draft article I submitted earlier this year regarding my employer, RAJA, a reseller of packaging and office supplies. I understand that the draft did not comply with Wikipedia guidelines. I have been transparent about my connection to RAJA, and I hope to be able to improve the original submission. I recognise that the draft was too long and included details that were not relevant.

The reason I am seeking to publish an article on Wikipedia is that RAJA employs close to 600 people in the country. The RAJA Group has been operating in the UK since 1999.

Today, it operates in the United Kingdom through three companies — RAJAPACK UK, Viking Direct and Morplan — employing around 600 people.

Established in 1999, RAJAPACK UK is a distributor of packaging materials and equipment for businesses. The company employs approximately 200 people and operates a distribution centre and office facility near Bedford.

Viking Direct, a reseller of office supplies, stationery and furniture for businesses, was acquired by the RAJA Group in 2021, having previously been part of Office Depot. The business employs around 200 people across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Morplan is a reseller of equipment and supplies for retail and fashion businesses in the UK. Founded in 1846, the company employs around 90 people. It is headquartered in Harlow, Essex, and operates additional stores in London, Bristol, Glasgow and Birmingham.

I would appreciate the opportunity to resubmit a shorter article, focusing on factual and verifiable information about these three companies. Would this be possible, please?

Best regards,

Question from Vikfrs (21:31, 16 June 2026)

hi! I was wondering how I would go about submitting a petition to change all instances of "greenware" to "green ware" in the celadon article? Greenware in ceramics refers to unfired ceramic pieces. --Vikfrs (talk) 21:31, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

disregard previous

there is actually quite a bit that needs to be fixed and clarified in that article now that I look at it so nevermind the previous question, I can just do it myself since it'll be a bit of a project Vikfrs (talk) 21:37, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi MSK. I am interested in joining the academy and wondering if you still have open student slots. I have looked at other trainers but most of them aren't active. That is the reason why I decided to choose you as my instructor. TyronesEditsPages (talk) 06:54, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
