French director and writer. His main claim to fame is being the creator of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, which is notable. Aside from that, Mr. Astruc has not done anything significant. Currently, the biography doesn't impart any information that cannot be included in there. He gets mentioned frequently as the creator of the series, but none of the sources (as far as I can tell) constitute significant coverage. The rest of the available information are social media posts by or about him or generic interviews, which also don't help the article's case.

The article has been repeatedly recreated by sockpuppets, so I would like to seek stronger community consensus on this matter. I am requesting that the longstanding redirect to Miraculous Ladybug is restored, and maybe semi-protection of the redirect. OwenCobalt (talk) 06:58, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Redirect and Indefinitely Semi-Protect - As noted by OwenCobalt is an ongoing attempt by a sock (SPI for reference) to expand this into a full article. I've had to clean this redirect up several times before. While there is a chance that Mr. Astruc will be notable eventually, for now there is no WP:N to be seen. ~ Matthewrb Get in touch · Breadcrumbs 14:11, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

I propose redirecting to [] because it is not notable. It has 8 citations including a Twitter post, directory listing, and blog reviews. The article itself contains such inspired revelations as: "On 2020, Fox released nine promotional pictures from the episode." The directory listing entry already conveys everything special about this episode such that there is no need to mirror it on Wikipedia. TPI81AF (talk) 19:48, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

  • According to this, the short was screened at the MoMA in 2010. If we can find proof of this or of the other screening as part of a retrospective of Burton's work, then this may be enough to establish it per NFILM. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:07, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
I found confirmation for the MoMA showing. They didn't show the full thing, just excerpts. Not sure if that's enough to keep on. I did find a very nice book source that had some detailed information, along with some others that are more on the trivial side. This is maybe enough but I'd prefer more before really going for a keep. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 16:39, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Weak keep. I found some reception type commentary and added that. I also added the book After Disney as a source, but I'm not super certain of its reliability admittedly. Its inclusion in a Burton retrospective at the MoMA is what pushes this into weak keep territory for me. It's not a solid keep and I wouldn't fight it being redirected to either Burton or Rees. Burton might be a better target, as the sourcing does seem to give his name slightly more attention than Rees, but it's actually discussed to some level in Rees's article. If the consensus is to redirect to Burton, I'd include a line about it in the early work section of his article. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 17:28, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Like many other similar articles, it's just plot summaries for a character who wouldn't pass a WP:GNG and the point of the split is just to acknowledge that Doctor Midnite is a legacy mantle, which can be summed up. I usually go for merges but the information about him is already summed up on the Doctor Mid-Nite page. Him being Starman is not relevant enough to create a seperate page of him. Merge with Mister Terrific because on his own, Terry himself is not notable enough to warrant a seperation. He fails WP:GNG and Michael Holt's character has triple the amount of appearances and relevance. It seems the only reason he has his own page is just to make it clear "Mister Terrific" is a legacy mantle, which can already be summed upon the page itself. He should get a decent amount of coverage somewhere on the "Mister Terrific" page but a merge would benefit the page by no longer making it a redundant fork. I propose merging to Mister Terrific because Holt is the most popular and signficant Mister Terrific; the merge isn't just to put him there but to make him the primary focus with some of Terry. Terry Sloane's character wouldn't pass WP:GNG and the only reason it is seperate is just to make the page a WP:CONTENTFORK when it's not necessary. Like Cyborg Superman and Spectre, the page would benefit from it being simplified and consolidated and be less redundant. CosmicMordecai (talk) 00:50, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

    1. Tawton, Sarah (2014-09-30). "TV channel to air children's series". Press Association. Factiva PARSOE0020140930ea9u000b5.

The article notes: "A children's television series created and filmed by a team of volunteers in Kent is set to make its debut on the Community Channel. The Brilliant Book follows the adventures found in a book, as seen through the eyes of a young boy and his friends. The show has been created by Blue Red Green Media with help from students at Audio & Vision Training Academy in Ashford, who provided voiceovers and photography sessions. Their work has been illustrated by writer and artist Jessica Taylor while Blue Red Green Media director Rhonda Merrick, who wrote the series, provides music with her band Rhonda and The Great Unknown."

The article notes: "A youngster from Mersea has been chosen to play the main part in a new children’s TV series. Benjamin John Taylor, nine, will play the lead role in the Brilliant Book, which will be on the Community Channel from October. The show is about the adventures of a boy and his friends. Each of the 26 episodes ends with the boy, played by Benjamin, adding his adventures of the day to his brilliant book."

    3. Williams, Sam (2014-08-11). "Rhonda Merrick, of Hurst Road, Kennington creates TV show 'The Brilliant Book' inspired by her own son". KentOnline. Archived from the original on 2026-06-15. Retrieved 2026-06-15.

The article notes: "A woman from Ashford has created a new TV show for children. The Brilliant Book is the brainchild of Rhonda Merrick and will premiere on the Community Channel in October. Ms Merrick, 47, who was born in New Orleans, says the fun and educational show was inspired by her son, Benjamin, nine, who is on the autistic spectrum. ... Each 30-minute episode, which will be loosely based on a letter of the alphabet, will include animated segments, drawn by Ms Merrick herself, a 'brilliant friend of the day' and film clips showing Benjamin and a group of his friends going on adventures. Most of the music will be produced by Ms Merrick’s band, Rhonda and the Great Unknown."

    4. "A new children's TV show created by an Ashford mum and designed to encourage a love of reading will air daily". Kentish Express. 2014-10-02. Factiva KENTEX0020141002eaa20000d.

The article notes: "Rhonda Merrick, pictured above, was inspired to write The Brilliant Book by her nine-year-old son Benjamin who is autistic. Each half-hour episode is based around a different letter of the alphabet and follows Benjamin and his friends on an adventure. The series is scheduled to begin on the Community Channel on November 2 at 7.30am and will repeat later that day at 2.30pm. The episode will then repeat every weekday at 8am and will finish off with an evening repeat on Fridays at 6.30pm."

    5. "Heating cost can be eased". Kentish Express. 2014-09-18. Factiva KENTEX0020140918ea9i0000o.

The article notes: "A children's programme written by Ashford woman Rhonda Merrick will begin on the Community Channel on Sunday, November 2. Rhonda, who teaches music at the Canterbury Academy, was inspired to write The Brilliant Book by her son Benjamin, nine, who has autism. Each half-hour episode is based around a different letter of the alphabet and the series is designed to encourage children to discover the joy of reading."

    6. "Graphic Student challenged to do 50 Covers in 50 weeks". Daily Gazette. 2015-11-11. Factiva NQTID00020151111ebbb00034. NewsBank 1590CA9DF0D4D6D8.

The article notes: "Jessica Taylor, 17, who is in her second year at Colchester Sixth Form College, has been given the job of producing covers for the funk rock band. Rhonda and The Great Unknown plan to release a track per week in the run up to lead singer Rhonda Merrick’s 50th birthday. ... She also delivered artwork for children’s television show The Brilliant Book which was shown on free-to-air network The Community Channel last year."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow The Brilliant Book to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

    Cunard (talk) 08:08, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Do you actually check these results? Why is number 5 entitled "Heating cost can be eased"? This doesn't give me much confidence in the reliability of Factiva. Orange sticker (talk) 14:26, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
The title of Factiva KENTEX0020140918ea9i0000o is "Heating cost can be eased" because the database entry includes the section of Kentish Express that covers heating in one article and The Brilliant Book in another article. It would be ideal if the two articles had separate Factiva entries. That they are combined in the same entry does not impugn the reliability of Factiva. The database entry does not have a separate headline for The Brilliant Book article, so I used the title of the database entry. Cunard (talk) 09:07, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: The notability guideline for television shows is Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline. The notability guideline does not exclude online-only sources, local websites, or human interest stories that include some interview content. There is no requirement for the sources to cover cultural impact or reception, viewership or other things showing significance. The sources go beyond plot summary by covering the show's origins and production which is sufficient to comply with WP:NOTPLOT. Regarding I suspect source 1 in Cunard's list is a press release., the first source is not a press release. It's a bylined article from the Press Association news agency. Cunard (talk) 09:07, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
They constitute passing mentions, failing WP:GNG. The sources being anticipatory also means that the information comes from the people involved with the show, i.e. not independent. Geschichte (talk) 18:33, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
That's a bit absurd. I would argue providing a source assessment after what Cunard has provided. – The Grid (talk) 22:16, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Has been in CAT:NN since 2010. Searching in both English and Japanese turned up minimal sourcing at best: a couple directory listings, unreliable-looking blogs, and social media posts. Japanese Wikipedia's article isn't much better, with one inaccessible source, one that doesn't mention the show at all, and one about a pachinko machine. I admit I can't read Japanese and am relying on machine translation, but when the second hit on GNews is an Instagram post, I'm inclined to believe this work is not notable. Propose merging Template:R comics with possibilities with Template:R with possibilities; Template:R comics from alternative name with Template:R from alternative name; Template:R comics to list entry with Template:R to list entry; Template:R comics from merge with Template:R from merge; Template:R comics from related word with Template:R from related word; and Template:R comics to section with Template:R to section, respectively.
Note that this isn't a proposal to merge all these templates into one huge template, but to merge the comics redirect templates into their non-comics equivalents. I think the comics redirect templates should be merged into their respectively similary titled templates, without the word 'comics' in them, because they otherwise serve similar purposes, and I don't see the point of them being separate. I'm open to the proposals of the templates without the word 'comics' in their titles having the {{{comics}}} parameter instead if that's what Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics and its participants want. I'm surprised these proposals weren't made sooner. I've deliberately excluded 'Template:R comics naming convention' from this proposal because it serves a specific purpose and because there's no non-comics-related template similar to that one. PK2 (talk; contributions) 12:44, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

  • Comment: I've deliberately listed all the above templates in this one discussion because I don't see the point in having separate discussions for each of the respective comics redirect templates and their non-comics equivalents. PK2 (talk; contributions) 00:05, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
  • Comment: I'll wait for the rest of the discussion before formalizing my position here, but I don't find this template scheme in today's landscape the correct way. If this is a valid scheme for comics, then there is no reason why this isn't valid for films, television, horror, NZ politics, F1, etc. For the same reason I also don't think adding a parameter or having the categories (for example Category:Comics redirects from merges) are a good idea. Other media have templates such as {{R from film}}, {{R from television program}}, {{R from song}}. If comic books need a redirect template, then {{R from comics}} or {{R from comic book}} can be created (characters already have {{R from fictional character}}). If the comic book WikiProject wants to track their pages, then just add {{WikiProject Comics}} to the talk page of the redirect. Gonnym (talk) 15:59, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
  • Support: I've long felt there are too many near-duplicate rcats. I see no reason to have separate versions just for comics. Alas, I don't work in comics articles so I'll leave it to others to hammer out the specifics. I see you've announced this TfD on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics, so that's good. — voidxor 19:03, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
  • Comment: Not sure I completely understand the ask here. If you merge, for instance, Template:R with possibilities and Template:R to list entry, what are you wanting to merge them into? I've particularly used both of those redirect templates on numerous pages that have nothing to do with comics. Maybe instead of merging, you more correctly want to delete all of the "R comics..." type redirect templates, and simply start using the correct redirect templates? — TadgStirkland401(TadgTalk-Email) 19:41, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
@TadgStirkland401: The nominator wants to merge all the comics into the non-comics. I.e. merge the first with the second ("R comics with possibilities" with "R with possibilities"), the third with fourth ("R comics from alternative name" with "R from alternative name") and so on. Christian75 (talk) 20:43, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
As of 2025-11-09 I feel that the proposal is clear enough (replace all the "R comics" templates with their regular counterparts), and I weak support because this also seems unnecessarily redundant to me. If anyone has a good reason for keeping them then I'd be interested to hear it! But my hunch is that it's just historical cruft. Hopefully an automated replacement can also automatedly "add {{WikiProject Comics}} to the talk page of the redirect" or whatever (if anyone actually cares about that; I don't really know) as well. • Support per voidxor. Christian75 (talk) 20:43, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
  • Support the actual intent here. This was mislisted as a single merge (i.e. to one template), when the intent is clearly to merge {{R comics with possibilities}} to {{R with possibilities}}, then separately merge {{R comics from alternative name}} to {{R from alternative name}}, and so on. This should be done unless there's a compelling reason we need to divide each of these "R with/from/to generic_maintenance_categorization" rcats into topical subdivisions, and that comics in particular should be one of those subdivisions. (Even if that's actually true in some case, it is not necessarily true for all of them.) We shold do all of these merges in absence of a strong showing that one or more should not be merged. This is basically useless micro-intersection, of a sort that badly mixes categorization types and purposes. The identification of something as a comics topic is already accomplished (and is a reader- as well as editor-facing matter) by comics topical categories of the usual sort. Meanwhile, "R with/from/to generic_maintenance_categorization" categories are maintenance only and just editor-facing (nor do these generally need to be topically split, since editors working on categorization of, and other maintenance pertaining to, redirects that go in such categories are doing so on a cross-topical basis. Another way of putting it is that a redir being from an alternative name (or whatever) and it also pertaining to comics is a trivial intersection and non-defining characteristic.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  21:01, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
I've just clarified my proposal to request to merge the comics redirect templates into their regular non-comics equivalents. I've deliberately listed all the above templates in this one discussion because I don't see the point in having separate discussions for each of the respective comics redirect templates and their non-comics equivalents. • Support what was presumably the intent here per SMcCandlish. There is no clear reason why comics, or any other topic, needs a distinct version of the general purpose RCAT templates. ~2025-31245-28 (talk) 22:30, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

Support the actual intent here i.e. to abandon the need for comics to have their own set of redirect templates. The generic set of templates do the job perfectly well. BobKilcoyne (talk) 06:49, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
Question to supports: You are all saying you support the nomination, but three of you said per "SMcCandlish" which (if I read correctly) isn't in support of continuing with the comic-specific categorization. So it would seem the intent here is to replace (or redirect), rather than merge any functionality. Gonnym (talk) 07:14, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
Support, no need to differentiate FaviFake (talk) 18:12, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
  • Only Support merging the comic variants of these R-cat templates into the corresponding general templates with matching names. For the avoidance of doubt, I Oppose merging the various R-cat templates that do not include the word comics. The proposal is badly worded and confusing at first glance. It would have been clearer if a separate proposal was made for each template that it was proposed to merge with its corresponding target template; as I interpret the proposal, it is only proposed to merge Template:R comics from merge into Template:R from merge, etc. This is not actually a proposal to merge all these templates together, even though it appears to be one based on the way the templates are listed. Hence my partial opposition. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 04:21, 8 November 2025 (UTC)

  • Delete all the "redirect comics" after they have been replaces with the "normal" R-templates. My first vote was support, but it was unclear what I was supporting, but still per user:voidxor. strong oppose merging. Christian75 (talk) 08:24, 8 November 2025 (UTC)
  • Support if I've understood correctly that this is fundamentally equivalent to replacing "R [media type] from [relationship between source and target article]", at least for those articles to do with comics. If we have "Redirect from alternative name", we don't need a more precise "Redirect from comic with alternative name", for example. I think I'm in agreement with BobKilcoyne. • Support mergers of 'R comics xyz' to equivalent 'R xyz' templates and categories. The duplicate 'comics' categories serve no useful purpose. There is no clear rationale for comics' special treatment and this is likely to lead to inconsistent tagging. Oppose adding 'comics' parameter as I have not seen any rationale for adding this. Overall, I support simplifying Rcats and not having a million ways to subcategorize them unless there is a meaningful benefit to maintenance or another aspect of the project. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 16:47, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
